Και η ανακοίνωση της ιδιοκτήτριας εταιρείας του αεροσκάφους
A few days ago we kissed a bird at Ioannina airport, Greece. The fate of the bird is unknown. However, the poor LY-SPF needed some serious maintenance and a brand new nose, which resulted in an epic effort – the aircraft nose is not something you can easily get and attach
After an intense search we found the needed part in... Ireland .Wait, that‘s just the start. Ioannina is a town too small to expect any scheduled cargo plane activity, so we had to charter a cargo plane as well. Found in Shannon, the AN-26B flew to Dublin, loaded the nose, and went to Ioannina with a fuel stop at Zagreb Airport. In Ioannina, aviation engineers brought there from 3 different stations were already waiting, ready for the job.
While maintenance colleagues were sweating about the nose, Planning and Operations Control were doing their best to keep the flight schedule in place – as you probably know, in aviation, all the flights are strictly scheduled in advance, and one aircraft out of service results in a domino effect with many other rotations getting delayed. While rescheduling flights, crew shedules undergo changes as well, and some people find themselves in a situation where you have to load your luggage in 15 minutes and go to another country. To avoid long flight delays, we even had to fly one crew on a private jet from Vilnius to Gdansk!
Luckily, the epic effort is over and after 37 hours of work, LY-SPF has a brand new nose and is ready to take off.
By the way, bird strikes are a common incident, and there is nothing to worry about - airplanes are designed to withstand such impact without any harm to passengers
