<The Abu Dhabi carrier is at loggerheads with Skytrax, the independent air travel ratings and reviews body, which gives an airline a rating out of five stars and also runs an awards program, voted by travellers. Etihad, which is currently rated 4-star by Skytrax, said on it was withdrawing from both the rating and the customer-led awards, following a review of the rating system’s criteria. “The measurement of customer satisfaction and feedback is important to Etihad Airways”, the airline said in a statement. Skytrax hit back by saying that it worked in conjunction with airlines on the rating system. “An airline cannot demand to be withdrawn from the World Airline Awards, since these results are directly decided by customers”, Skytrax said in a statement. “To subsequently try and conceal the results of a public vote would be unacceptable”. This is not the first time Etihad has ruffled feathers. Since launching 10 years ago, Etihad Chief Executive James Hogan has repeatedly said that his goal is to create a profitable airline that’s both safe and an ambassador for Abu Dhabi. Crucially, he has also said the airline must be “best in class”. In the 2013 airline awards, rival Emirates Airline was named “The World’s Best Airline’, followed by Qatar Airways. Etihad placed 7th, and won few other awards, other than ‘Best First Class’ cabin. Emirates is currently given a 4-star rating and Qatar is given 5 stars. “The airline subscribes to monthly industry research and undertakes comprehensive monthly surveys to monitor customer satisfaction, using the insights to continually improve its products and services”, Etihad added in a statement.>
