Air India's last three remaining Boeing 747-237B Classics have been removed from all scheduled international flights during the Winter 2004 schedule.

The aircraft will be retained as hot spares for the Boeing 747-337M Combis however and for Hajj charters as well as Delhi fog shuttles in December/January.

In the meanwhile though, the final planned scheduled international flights with these aircraft will occur in the upcoming weeks to Frankfurt, Tokyo and Bangkok - all in substitution for a Boeing 747-337M Combi that will be undergoing scheduled maintenance.

AI reschedules flights
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JAN 10. The closure of Pakistan air space and the uncertainty created by fog has forced Air India to stop all west- bound flights to and from Delhi.

The flights to and from Europe, the U.K. and the U.S. will now originate and terminate at Mumbai, omitting Delhi, according to an Air India news release.

However, Air India will operate shuttle services between Delhi and Mumbai to ensure that passengers are not inconvenienced.

These shuttles will have through check-in flights. The airline will endeavour to minimise the time between the shuttle and international flights.

According to Air India, the fog in Delhi and the closure of Pakistan air space have led to massive disruption in its schedule which is not only inconveniencing passengers but also affecting its image.
