Greenland-USA route to open in 2007
Air Greenland held its annual general meeting yesterday, April 4th 2006. The Company’s financial report shows a turnover of DKK 869.7 million and a profit after tax of DKK 40.8 million. At the meeting, the board announced the launch in 2007 of a new route to the USA.
At the annual general meeting, Chairman of the Board, Peter Grønvold Samuelsen, announced that the company will be starting a new route to the USA from Kangerlussuaq in May 2007.
”For a long time now, we have been working with the idea of flying westwards. We are considering whether we should choose Canada or the USA. We will probably choose the USA, where we intend to establish a route between Kangerlussuaq and Baltimore for part of the year, probably May – September. The route will not open until next spring because we need the time in between to prepare the customer base. Initially, our starting point will be the existing fleet of aircraft.”
- We are very pleased with the board’s support towards starting the new route. Customers are already very interested in opening Greenland to tourists from the west. We will now start on the practical work with establishing, and not least marketing the new route to tour operators in North America. The route will also open up for new tourist destinations for the people of Greenland and provide opportunities for businesses. Expansion of the route, so that it is available all year round is possible, if customers show enough interest in the period up to the start, says President of Air Greenland, Flemming Knudsen, in a comment to the decision.
The present board of directors voted in by the shareholders, Peter Grønvold Samuelsen, Alfred E. R. Jakobsen (Greenland Home Rule), Susanne Kirsten Larsen (SAS), Lars Tybjerg and Mads Kofod (The Danish State) were all re-elected at the annual general meeting. In addition, the board consists of three employee-elected representatives, Claus Motzfeldt, flight mechanic, Mogens Due Woldsgaard, flight technician and Sten Andersen, captain. The board constituted itself with Peter Grønvold Samuelsen as chairman.
